and allogeneic cells, sequentially. Chimerism was defined by chromosomal analysis and HLA typing. in which ene haplotype seemed to be shared betwecn the donor and the host by chance. However, defective irnrnunoglobulin productien has not yet been cerrected, The assay on T-B lymphocyte intcraction in ndtre suggested that the/ failure might be attributed to an intrinsic dafect of B lymphocytes, which were cerls of donor origin after transplantation. Three years following transplantation, the patient is free of severe infectionrp, although he requires regular injections o £ gamma・globulin.

Expansion of Non-Enriched Cord Blood Stem/Progenitor Cells CD34+ CD38- Using Liver Cells

Many investigators have used xenogeneic, especially murine stromal cells and fetal calf serum to maintain and expand human stem cells. The proliferation and expansion of human hematopoietic stem cells in ex vivo culture were examined with the goal of generating a suitable protocol for expanding hematopoietic stem cells for patient transplantation. Using primary fetal liver cells, we established...

Human fetal liver cells for regulated ex vivo erythropoietin gene therapy

Possible risks and lack of donor livers limit application of liver transplantation. Liver cell transplantation is, at this moment, not a feasible alternative because engraftment in the liver is poor. Furthermore, there is also shortage of cells suitable for transplantation. Fetal liver cells are able to proliferate in cell culture and could therefore present an alternative source of cells for t...

Whole fetal liver transplantation--a new approach to cell therapy.

We recently developed a novel rat model for liver repopulation, heterografting of microliver slices, aimed at overcoming the limitations inherent in both whole liver and hepatocyte transplantations. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the potential of whole fetal liver transplantations to survive and differentiate within the adult liver, using the adult liver slice transplantation mode...

Liver Transplantation during Pregnancy for Acute Liver Failure due to HBV Infection: A Case Report

Acute hepatic failure during pregnancy is a life-threatening situation for the mother and fetus and might need a super-urgent liver transplantation. Many pregnancies with positive outcomes are reported after a previous liver transplantation before the pregnancy, but only a few of them are mentioned with transplantation during pregnancy. In these few cases, fetal outcome is mostly adverse. Exper...

Liver Transplantation for Acute Liver Failure at 11-Week Gestation with Successful Maternal and Fetal Outcome

Acute liver failure (ALF) during pregnancy is very uncommon. Pregnancy-specific liver conditions like hemolysis, elevated liver enzymes, and low platelets (HELLP) syndrome and acute fatty liver of pregnancy can cause ALF at term or postpartum, but, typically occur during the third trimester. Most of these patients recover spontaneously after delivery, but, on occasion, they require liver transp...

Quantitative gene expression analysis reveals transition of fetal liver progenitor cells to mature hepatocytes after transplantation in uPA/RAG-2 mice.

Therapies for liver diseases with stem and progenitor cells will require a detailed knowledge of the molecular mechanisms driving the in vivo differentiation process toward adult hepatic tissue. We applied quantitative gene expression methods to analyze the differentiation process of fetal liver progenitor cells after transplantation into an animal model of liver regeneration. Enhanced green fl...
